A Force Of Habit
One of the things that you should do to train your dog or puppy into knowing where to leave their marks is by associating. You can associate any words that come to mind (simple words) to that of the toilet area that you have designated. You can use the dog’s name, or any simple words such as toilet, or area. But not only this, you should also lead your dog to this area, point to this area and have your dog circle this area.
When your puppy is able to eliminate his words by responding to your cue word, then gladly reward him with a dog food, a biscuit or even a pat on the head. You must show to your dog that he is the best puppy in the whole world. Continue to do this to praise your dog. On the other hand, if your dog doesn’t leave its waste there even if you have said the cue words over and over again, get him out of the area and go back after twenty minutes or so. Have your dog circle the area first, along with saying the cue words.
After the dog was finished with its business, allow him to have a supervised play in your house. Just enjoy your time with your puppy and after awhile, get him back to his pen area.
Just continue doing this routine to your dog and your dog will eventually get the hang of it. After all, dogs are habits of creatures – they must form a habit so that they would be able to get the whole picture.
