Operation Separation
We have actually three dogs at home, and the two younger ones keep on following my mother everywhere she goes, which makes her irritated at times. My sister has said that they both suffer from separation anxiety. And she is right. Dogs do suffer from separation anxiety. But how do you train your dogs not to keep on following you around? Before you try to answer this question, understand first why your dog is suffering from separation anxiety.
There are actually no known reasons why dogs suffer from separation anxiety. It is believed that this happens because of a particularly event, but here are some reasons why some dogs do suffer from separation anxiety.
Dogs suffer from this one because you have changed your routine – such as a change in schedule at work, or that you have imminently decided to eat first before you take a bath. Always keep in mind that dogs are animals of habit, and they become restless when they suddenly find you doing what they don’t expect.
Your dog becomes anxious when you spend too much time with them and then suddenly, you decided to go back to work. Or when you have been on vacation and when you go back home when your dogs least expect you – these incidents are a cause for distress for your dogs.
Dogs that have been rescued from animal shelters are most likely suffering from separation anxiety.
When your dogs have experienced a terrible thing while he is on his own, separation anxiety happens. Events like the loud thunder or sparkling firecrackers can cause separation anxiety.
And when you realize all of these, you are now able to train your dog.
